2010 Thrash Metal Hall of Fame Inductees

The 1st Annual Thrash Metal Hall of Fame by Rich Bailey. These bands are considered the pioneers in the music genre called Thrash Metal. Starting in the early 80's, thrash metal took the cords of metal and infused it with speed and aggressiveness of late 70's Punk Rock. The combination was a pulse pounding in your face music that is still relevant today.
  • Metallica
  • Slayer
  • Megadeth
  • Nuclear Assault
  • Overkill
  • Venom (Pioneer)
The 2011 nominees are the following: Kreator, Pantera, Anthrax, Death, D.R.I., Testament, Exodus, and Sepultura

My Top 10 Metal Albums of All Time

It's 2010, so I decided to put up a list of my favorite Metal albums of all time. Figured I'd add a list since "we" love lists so much!

  • Testament, The Gathering (With Dave Lombardo on drums. Incredible album start to finish).

  • Overkill, Horrorscope (Excellent production, powerful riffs, and great vocals).

  • Holy Terror, Mind Wars (The most underrated band of late 80's thrash. Dynamic, original and powerful).

  • Nuclear Assault, Handle with Care (One of the pioneers of crossover metal/hardcore. Their masterpiece).

  • Pantera, Vulgar Display of Power (Unbelievable guitar and rhythm on this release. The best songs they have ever written. Intense and crushing).

  • Exodus, Bonded by Blood (Amazing and catchy thrashcore. Pioneers of early thrash. The re-recorded version "Let There be Blood" is just as good with better production. Awesome).

  • Iron Maiden, Powerslave (So many good albums to choose from, but I always liked this one the best. Epic and driving with some of the catchiest songs they have ever written. Up the Irons!).

  • Death, Symbolic (The God Father of Deathmetal, Chuck Shuldiner, did some of his most amazing writing on this album. Heavy, fluid, graceful, and plain bad ass. Gene "The Machine" Hoglan's drums are ridiculous on this release. The best of the best in old school Deathmetal).

  • Gojira, The Way of All Flesh (The only newbie band to make it. This French quartet writes some of the most epic, awe inspiring heavy music I've ever heard. The drummer, Mario Duplantier, plays like he has eight arms, I was stunned by his work on this album. Thick with emotion and amazing musicianship these guys are probably the most original band around today).

  • Slayer, Seasons in the Abyss (Most rate "Reign in Blood" as their best. Not to me. This album infused all of what Slayer is and ever will be. It mixes great guitar riffs, pounding drums, and the best vocals Tom Araya has ever done. This in my opinion is their masterpiece).

  • Final Note: Yes this is my list. Metallica and Megadeth did not make the cut. I understand they are great bands, and even more successful commercially. But to me these albums stand out as the best "I" ever heard. And as my moods change this list may as well. But for right now - this is my list.

    Out.
